Public meeting on Property Tax Reforms on dated 7th Apr' 2023

The meeting was chaired by Smt. Bipasha Bora, Chairperson, Makum Municipal Board. Hon’ble chair welcomed all participants and stated the agenda of the meeting. Hon’ble MLA of 123 Digboi LAC Sri Suren Phukan has given his gracious presence in the meeting. Sri Bikash Boraily AE of Makum MB elaborated the reason of the public meeting is to make property tax reforms of Makum MB as per the instruction of Government of Assam and made an appeal of a increment of 5% from the existing tax rates which was revised from the year 2017-18. Hon’ble MLA Sri Suren Phukan in his speech stated that the tax reform is very important as Makum MB shall not receive any fund from central and state Government if the reforms are not done. He emphasised on the enhancement of property tax in a moderate way so that minimum burden of tax go to common people. Among the Public most of the speaker admitted that the tax reforms is needed but the rate of enhancement should be kept within the limit of 3% only. The house agrees the 3% enhancement and took following resolution unanimously:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->1.     <!--[endif]-->The house unanimously resolves that the property tax enhancement of Makum Municipal Board as a part of tax reforms shall be kept @ 3% of existing property tax as per revision done in the year 2017-18 with effect from 01.04.2023.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->    The house also resolves that the minimum property tax for all types of kutcha house shall be Rs. 300.00 (Rupees Three Hundreds) only and minimum property tax of types of pucca/ AT/ RCC house shall be Rs 500.00 (Rupees Five Hundreds) only with effect from 01.04.2023.
